The value of an enterprising skill set for someone starting a career in the Industry as a Producer.

Knowing your stuff will get you far in any industry. Going into the Games Industry with clear and defined expectations and boundaries leaves for little chance of problems or mislead beliefs getting in the way of your career.


It's common knowledge that researching a job before you get into it is always the perfect way to go about entering an industry. You can learn so much from a few google searches; how the industry works, issues and problems with it, so on. You can establish yourself and your desired work performance by recognising the skills needed in your area of work, and applying yourself to fill any gaps you see. This is where enterprising skill comes imperative. If you understand completely how something works, you can improve upon it. And if you are improving upon the standard, you are standing out in what is an extremely competitive environment. Learning how to work well with a team, how to manage one, that is imperative for working in any team. You do not know the situations you may find yourself in, and it may give you the opportunity to make those around you view you as someone they can rely on for competency and consistency. Plus, it will allow for your own work to run smoother. If you end up under the command of higher ups who aren't meeting your needs, you already have the knowledge and understanding to be able to supply those needs in your place. Organisation and management skills are the most important skills when working in any creative industry. They give you the utilities to support and nurture the team around you, create a positive work environment and allow for the best performance.


Not to mention, these skills will allow you to recognise what a team is lacking. Where you need more assistance and what it is exactly that is hindering process. This is especially important, and if you can give a detailed report to your management about what could be running smoother, and what skillset your management should be looking for while hiring, it can aid to the better production of your game and better relationship with management. Although it is not always your responsibility to offer solutions to management to issues you're facing, giving your knowledgeable input as someone with first hand experience with the most intimate part of the team will almost always go incredibly in your favour.
